We use the latest tools to diagnose, treat, and prepare personalized rehabilitation for every patient.
Equine Acupuncture is the practice of traditional Chinese medicine (TCVM) and it has been used to treat horses for thousands of years. It involves the examination of diagnostic points along the body to determine areas of sensitivity or pain. There are many ways to treat with TCVM including: dry needles, electrostimulation, burning herbs on needles, acupressure or aquapuncture.
We utilize state-of-the-art digital radiography to obtain high quality images. From lameness diagnostics to purchase examinations, our equipment allows us to image routine areas as well as more difficult regions (i.e. neck, back or skull) in the field. Our images are easily shared with referring or consulting veterinarians and farriers, allowing input from multiple sources.
Our ultrasound equipment allows us to clearly and accurately evaluate musculoskeletal structures, diagnose injury and monitor healing. We also utilize the ultrasound for the precise injection of structures within the neck, back, sacroiliac region, and soft tissue core lesions.
Equine athletes need to be sound to perform at the top of their game. It is important to be able recognize lameness at the onset before it hinders performance. We believe in a systematic approach to localizing issues, whether it is routine soundness examinations to detect subtle lameness or evaluation of an injury. This commonly involves palpations, flexions, evaluation on the lunge line or under saddle, diagnostic blocking and imaging as needed.
Individualized rehab plans
Every injury is different, therefore every rehabilitation is different. We tailor our rehabilitation plans based on extent of injury, the horse’s career, and the owner’s budget. Open communication and reevaluation during rehabilitation is paramount to successful outcomes.
Whether you are buying $2000 or a $2 million-dollar horse, an educated decision is vital to ensure the horse will meet your expectations. We evaluate the entire horse, including, but not limited to, a physical exam, neurologic exam, ophthalmic exam, dental exam and bloodwork. A full lameness work-up is essential to this process and allows us to advise on necessary diagnostic imaging. Potential buyers receive a thorough report, including pictures and diagnostic images.
Every horse needs vaccinations, deworming, dental care and bloodwork on a periodic basis. We advise clients on their horses particular needs and can help plan these essential services around competitions.
Foxwood Equine is committed to helping you achieve your goals by providing the highest quality of care for your horse.
